MUSTANGS LOSE HEARTBREAKER TO ST. JOSEPH (CT)

In the 87th minute of play, St. Joseph College (CT) sophomore Paige Briglia (Watertown, CT/Watertown) netted the lone goal against hosting Mount Ida College for the 1-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory this Tuesday in Newton, Massachusetts.  The Mustangs continue their skid going winless in the past six games dropping to 3-10-2, 1-8-1 in conference play.  The Blue Jays continue to dominate, without a loss in their past nine games, improving to 13-2-2, 8-1-2 in the GNAC.

Despite being out shot 24-5, Mount Ida hung with the visitors the entire contest even though the bulk of the action was correlated in their end.  The solitary goal was scored off a breakaway that deflected off an errant pass.  Blue Jay sophomore Eva Peart (Bloomfield, CT/Bloomfield) fed a wide open Briglia who slid it pass Mustang goaltender sophomore Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT/Jericho) for the 1-0 win, a heartbreaker for the hosts.

The Mustangs had one legitimate chance in the 59th minute on a cross by junior Katie Lorenco (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester) to sophomore Allie DeAngelis (Lynnfield, MA/Lexington Christian) who missed slightly wide left.

Begins was solid the entire game for Mount Ida denying nine shots from the visitors along with some key saves that gave her teammates more opportunities to score.  St. Joseph keeper junior Cait Witham (Prospect, CT/Woodland) stopped two shots.

The Mustangs will stay home for their final two contests.  Next up will be GNAC powerhouse Emmanuel College this Sunday starting at 1:00 p.m.
