MUSTANGS DROP FINAL GAME ON SENIOR DAY TO RIVIER

In the 81st minute in the final match of the year for either team, Rivier College junior Emily Ingram (Litchfield, MA) netted the game winning goal in a 2-1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Mount Ida College women's soccer in Newton, Massachusetts this Thursday on a cold and windy senior day.  The Mustangs, who recognized five seniors before the start of the match, wrap up their season with an overall record of 3-12-2, 1-10-1 in the GNAC while the Raiders round out at 4-12-0, 2-10-0 in conference play.  Neither team will be in contention for the GNAC conference tournament.

Rivier struck first on a picture perfect shot by freshman Meg Hickey (Derry, NH) from the 18 yard line that curled into the right side of the net past Mustang goaltender sophomore Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT/Jericho).  This gave the Raiders the early 1-0 advantage in the 11th minute.

The Mustangs answered quickly in the 23rd minute.  Freshman Lindsay Hinken (Rehoboth, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth) serviced a beautiful cross to the middle of the box for senior Elise McLear (Swansea, MA/Case) to hammer past Rivier keeper junior Britt Puleo (Hudson, NH).  This knotted the score up at 1-1 going into the break.

The second half was played in the middle of the field with neither team showing signs of momentum.  Unfortunately for the Mustangs, the Raiders would be the first to strike on the Hickey goal giving them the 2-1 victory with not enough ticks on the clock for the hosts to answer.  Both goaltenders would deny four shots a piece while Mount Ida led the charge on offense outshooting the visitors 14-8.

Mount Ida women's soccer recognized senior's Elise McLear (Swansea, MA/Case), Katie Seibold (Whitinsville, MA/Whitinsville), Kathy Tilton (Pembroke, MA/Pembroke), Lisa Tucker (Norton, MA/Norton), and Kimberly Faber (Fruito, CO/Fruito) on their accomplishments as part of the program.  We would like to congratulate these players and wish them all the best on their future endeavors.
