MUSTANGS DROP FOURTH STRAIGHT GNAC BID TO SIMMONS
The Mount Ida College women's soccer team dropped their fourth consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss against Simmons College 2-0 this Tuesday in Newton, Massachusetts. The Mustangs record plunged to 2-5-1, 1-4 in conference play while the Sharks improve to 3-5-1 and 2-2 in the GNAC.
Simmons came out firing, converting their second shot on goal taking the 1-0 advantage 5:30 into the contest. Sophomore Brooke MacKenzie (Mansfield, MA/Mansfield) collected a pass from fellow sophomore Allie Megna (North Hampton, NH/St. Thomas Aquinas) and tucked it into the left side of the net. This would be the first of two hook-ups MacKenzie and Megna would translate on during the game.
Goal number two came with nine minutes remaining in the half off another conversion from Megna to MacKenzie. This gave the visitors the outright 2-0 lead and MacKenzie her second goal of the contest. The score would eventually hold up giving the Sharks the victory after a very stagnant second half for both teams.
Mount Ida only had one legitimate opportunity to net a goal, coming in the second stanza when Elise McLear (Swansea, MA/Case) hammered a ball from the left side of the 18 yard box that sailed high and over the crossbar.
The Mustangs could only muster seven shots while Simmons powered 12 throughout the contest. Mount Ida goaltender Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT/Jericho) denied three shots while Sharks keeper Rachel Elliott (Amherst, NH/Souhegan) stopped two. There would be one caution issued to the Mustangs.
Mount Ida will stay home and host Becker College this Thursday starting at 3:30 p.m.
