WOMEN'S SOCCER NOTCHES FIRST VICTORY OF SEASON
The Mount Ida College women's soccer team enjoyed their first victory of the season today against Bay Path College by a score of 3-0. It was also the first home win of the year for the Mustangs bettering their record to 1-0-1 overall while the Wildcats dropped their season opener.
It was a quick start for the home team and for senior captain Elise McLear (Swansea, MA/Case) who notched her first goal of the year. The score came within the first two minutes of the half making it a speedy 1-0.
The Mustangs would pepper the net with 25 shots during the first stanza while Bay Path could not muster one. MIC would go into the break with the advantage and the momentum leading 1-0.
The second half was very one sided with Mount Ida providing most of the offense. Although the Mustangs pounded the net, they could not convert another goal until the 82nd minute of the contest. Senior captain Kathy Tilton (Pembroke, NH/Pembroke) hit a rocket from the top of the box over the keeper's head for the 2-0 advantage.
MIC junior Katie Lorenco (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester Regional) would tack on one more with 35 seconds on the clock in regulation for the 3-0 victory, good for their first win of the year.
Bay Path goaltender, junior Samantha Gunseth (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock) saw a lot of action with 15 saves while Mustangs keeper Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT/Jericho) tallied one stop.
Mount Ida will go on the road for the next four games starting at Curry College on Wednesday, September 10, 2008. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
