MUSTANGS TRIUMPH IN DOUBLE OVERTIME AT BECKER
With 54 seconds remaining in double overtime, freshman forward Heather Harrington (Bedford, NH/Manchester West) poked in the game winning goal giving the Mount Ida College women's soccer team the 2-1 victory over hosting non-conference opponent Becker College Thursday night in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Mustangs improve 2-6-1, 0-5 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
Jamie Labrie (Southampton, MA/Southampton) put the Mustangs on the board 11 minutes into the game when she scored off of her own rebound. Caroline Plunkett (Rockaway, NY) tied that game at one apiece, when she ripped a shot into the left corner of the net, just over the head of Mount Ida goalkeeper Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT/Jericho).
The two teams were stalemated at one thought regulation and the first overtime. It looked like both teams would walk away with a tie until Harrington knocked in the game winner off a feed from junior Becky Tisbert (Cambridge, VT/Lamoille Union) for the 2-1 victory.
Begins made one save to earn the victory while Becker goalkeeper Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, MA) made nine saves in the loss.
The Mustangs will travel to GNAC member St. Joseph College (CT) this Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.
