WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO GNAC RIVAL LASELL 1-0

The Mount Ida College women's soccer team hosted neighboring rival and Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Lasell College falling 1-0 in on a wet and muddy senior day for the Mustangs this Saturday wrapping up their 2009 season.  The hosts end this year with an overall record of 4-9-3, 2-8-2 in conference play while the Lasers will head to the post season as the fourth seed with a record of 8-4-2, 7-2-2 in conference play.

Although there was only one goal scored in the contest, most of the action was dominated by the visitors who pounded 15 shots on net to Mount Ida's three in the first half.  Each team had an opportunity to score and take over the advantage but neither team could net a goal for a 0-0 tie going into the second half.

The lone goal of the contest came in the 56th minute of play in the beginning of the second half.  Laser junior Allyson Bushy (Westminster, MA/Oakmont) slid a perfect pass to a wide open sophomore Molly Clarke (Berlin, CT/Berlin) who was uncovered.  Clarke lined up her shot and fired it into the top left corner of the net for the immediate 1-0 lead.

For most of the second half the visitors held the ball in Mount Ida's offensive side with no answer from the Mustangs.  With little time remaining towards the end of the game, Mount Ida had a bounding ball in front of the net off a corner kick by Becky Tisbert (Cambridge, VT/Lamoille Union) that had potential to tie the game.  Unfortunately for the Mustangs, no one could poke it in ending the game with 1-0 loss for Mount Ida.

The Lasers had an amazing 25 attempts at corner kicks, 8 in the first half and 17 in the second while Mount Ida could only muster two.

Mount Ida goaltender junior Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT/Jericho) denied seven shots for the Mustangs while Laser sophomore keeper Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, MA/Mashpee) stopped two.

Congratulations to seniors Katie Lorenco (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester) and Kelsea Curtis-Ney (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) on their dedication to the women's soccer program throughout their tenure as a Mustang.
