WOMEN'S SOCCER CAPTURES FIRST GNAC BID, WIN 4-0 AT AMCATS
Mount Ida's freshman Sierra Legge (Schodack Landing, NY/Maple Hill) scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Mount Ida College women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over hosting Anna Maria College capturing their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) bid of the season.
The Mustangs snap a five game skid and improve to 2-5 overall with a conference slate of 1-3 while the visitors continue to search for their first win of the season (0-8, 0-4 GNAC).
The Mustangs kept constant pressure on the Anna Maria defense all night, connecting for two goals in each half.
Legge knocked in the first goal of the game, unassisted, at the 5:30 mark to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. At the 20 minute mark Legge got the assist on a goal by Aarika Viola (Portland, ME/Deering) to make it a 2-0 game. Legge tallied her second goal of the game just three minutes into the second half. Junior Alison Koning (Carlisle, MA/Concord-Carlisle) picked up the assist. Koning scored the final goal of the game in the 57th minute for the 4-0 final.
Mount Ida goalkeeper Tracy Koukol (North Attleboro, MA/North Attleboro) earned the shutout.
The Mustangs return to action Sunday when they host Lasell College at 1:00 pm.
