WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS 3-0 LOSS TO VISITING MONKS

The Mount Ida College women's soccer team dropped their eighth consecutive loss, all in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, falling to visiting St. Joseph's College (ME) by a score of 3-0 Sunday afternoon in Newton, Massachusetts on senior day.

The Mustangs fall to an overall record of 2-13-0 with a league slated of 1-11.  Mount Ida's 2011 season will end this coming Tuesday at non-conference Becker College with game time slated for 4:00 p.m.

The visitors got the scoring started in the 19th minute of play on an unassisted score by Monk freshman Doe Leckie (Naples, ME/Lake Region).  Leckie took a rebound off Mount Ida goaltender Devan Meeker (Bantam, CT/Litchfield) poking a shot into the middle of the net for the 1-0 lead.

In the 33rd minute of play St. Joe's added to their lead off a corner kick from visiting freshman Catherine Murch (West Baldwin, ME/Sacopee Valley).  Monk freshman Lizzie Calnan (Westport, MA/Bishop Stang) deflected the cross into the net for the 2-0 advantage.  It looked as if Calnan had used her hands to redirect the corner kick but the no call solidified the goal.

Early in the second half (47th minute) the visitors notched their third and final goal of the contest off another rebound in front of the net.  Monk sophomore Jessica Capozzi (Saugus, MA/Saugus) crossed a ball into the box that took one bounce to the foot of freshman Kim Jordan (Bangor, ME/Bangor) who punched a shot into the net for the 3-0 lead and eventually the GNAC win.

The Mustangs, who have struggled all year finding the back of the net, only mustered six shots for the game while the Monks pounded the net with 25.

Mount Ida netminder Meeker denied 13 visiting shots while Monk sophomore goalkeeper Jaci Lorenzen (Windham, ME/Windham) didn't see much action notching four stops.
