NEWTON, Mass. – Junior Lacey Perry (Westport, Mass.) pounced on a loose ball and slammed it into the back of the net at the 26:50 mark and Mount Ida College women's soccer opened their season with a 1-0 win over Mitchell in non-conference action on Friday evening at Alumni Field.
The Mustangs delivered the first victory for new Head Coach Brigi Palatino, who has taken over the helm this year, and is still undefeated against the Mariners, improving to 2-0-1.
AnnaMarie Seiler (Biddeford, Maine) got the start in net and made one save in nearly seventy-four minutes of action. Junior Kelsey Parkin (Standish, Maine) was not tested in the final 16:12 of the game as they combined for the clean sheet.
Mount Ida had a 21-5 edge in shots, with 10 of them coming off of the boot of Perry. Mitchell got six saves from sophomore goalie Jordan Lohneiss (W. Hartford, Conn.), and saw three of their shots from junior Drew Johndrow (Killingly, Conn.).
Perry scored the first goal of her collegiate career on Alumni Field against the Mariners two years ago, a strike with under thirty seconds to play that sent the game to overtime in an eventual 1-1 tie.
The Mustangs head to Wheelock on Monday afternoon for an 11:00 AM game against the Wildcats.
The Mariners host Albertus Magnus on Wednesday, September 6th at 4:00 PM.
