MUSTANGS IMPROVE WINNING STREAK TO FOUR

Mount Ida College swept Lesley University 3-0 in a non-conference women's volleyball match today at the Mount Ida athletic center by scores of 25-11, 25-17, and 25-14.  The Mustangs improve their overall record to 6-7 heading into their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match-up this coming Tuesday.  The Lynx would drop to 0-6 on the year.

Mount Ida led game one right from the start going up 8-1 before the visitors could notch their second point.  They kept the pace with a high powered offense leading by as many as 13 at 15-8 off a Blair Canan (North Reading, MA/North Reading) kill.  They took the outright 1-0 match lead winning 25-14.

Game two was a little closer, the Mustangs took the opening 3-0 advantage only for the Lynx to come back and detain the next five points, up 5-3. Mount Ida eventually tied the score at 6-6, kicking their offense into overdrive, capturing the momentum taking the 2-0 match lead winning 25-17.

Lesley made it a tougher game three for the Mustangs going back and forth the whole way.  The Lynx had the early 8-6 advantage off a Mount Ida error.  The score would knot at 8-8 on a block by Mustang freshman middle blocker Alyssa Echevarria (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck Regional).  The hosts maintaining the small margin throughout and eventually capture the 25-14 win and the 3-0 match victory.

Sophomore Chelsea Darnell (Dublin, OH/Dublin Scioto) tallied nine kills with Canan notching 10 of her own along with four service aces.  Senior captain Stephanie Saito (West Linn, OR/West Linn) and freshman Cody Fusco (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco Waldorf) combined for 33 assists and junior Lauren Biondo (Coventry, RI/Coventry) blocked four.

The Mustangs, who improve their winning streak to four games, will stay home to host Emerson College, their first GNAC opponent of the season, this coming Tuesday starting at 6:00 p.m.
