WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL DOWNED IN FINAL DAY OF M.I.T. TOURNEY

In the final day of the M.I.T. Invitational the Mount Ida College women's volleyball team dropped their final two matches with a 3-1 loss to visiting Bates College (17-25, 25-19, 21-25 and 16-25) falling to Brandeis College 3-1 (28-26, 17-25, 16-25 and 11-25) to finish the tournament with an 0-4 record Saturday afternoon. 

Mount Ida fall to an overall record of 2-9 holding at a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) slate of 1-1 heading into a league bid against hosting Suffolk University Tuesday evening.

Against Brandeis, Mustang senior hitter Jennifer Ferreira (Shirley, MA/Ayer) recorded a team-high 13 kills on 51 attempts adding eight digs and a block assist as well.  Mount Ida sophomore setter Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) dished out 25 assists with freshman defensive specialist Kelcy Koolman (Bedford, NH/Bedford) notching 12 digs. 

In the second match of the day, the Mustangs saw an outstanding individual performance from Ferreira with 18 kills and 12 digs.  Senior setter Julie Smith (Richmond, RI/Chariho) added 34 assists and nine digs while freshman hitter Trudy Goetchius (North Andover, MA/Lawrence Vocational) tallied 12 kills.  Koolman added a team-high 23 digs respectively.
